Lagos police identifies officer caught smoking weed

The Lagos State Police Command says it has identified the police officer caught smoking weed, otherwise known as Marijuana, in public in the Ijora area of the state.

The Star had earlier reported that the picture of the policeman, which was taken by his colleague, had gone viral after it was posted online.

It was later reposted on Instagram by Instablog 9ja.

“Nigerian police officer at Ijora Lagos smoking weed on duty,” the online medium captioned the picture.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, later ordered an investigation to unravel the identity of the policeman.

However, the Lagos State Police Command has identified the errant police officer as ASP Babatunde Adebayo, who is serving at Shogunle Divison of the Command.

This was made known via a statement issued by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Tuesday night.

The statement was titled, ‘Police officer smoking weed identified’.

Hundeyin noted that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, has directed the immediate commencement of appropriate disciplinary measures commensurate with the errant policeman’s rank.

The police spokesperson added that Alabi equally warned officers of the Command to “stay clear of all unprofessional and unethical conducts as any officer found guilty of these acts will be severely sanctioned.”
