The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 58-year-old man, Vitalis Nwoko of Umuagba, Ahiazu Mbaise LGA, following the alleged domestic beating that resulted in the death of his wife, Uloma Nwoko.
Police spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed the arrest on Sunday, noting that the incident was reported by the deceased’s sister to the Ahiazu Mbaise Police Division.
Okoye explained that the couple had a disagreement on Thursday, December 11, 2025, which escalated into a physical altercation. Uloma reportedly collapsed during the fight and was rushed to Cecilia Hospital, Ogbe, where she was pronounced dead.
“Operatives of the Ahiazu Mbaise Divisional Headquarters promptly arrested Vitalis Nwoko for the alleged murder of his wife following a report lodged by the deceased’s sister,” Okoye said.
“During preliminary investigations, the suspect admitted that a misunderstanding on December 11 escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the victim collapsed and later died at the hospital.”
Vitalis Nwoko has been transferred to the Imo State Police Command headquarters for further investigation and prosecution.
Meanwhile, Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, urged residents to report domestic violence promptly, assuring that the command would act decisively against perpetrators.
