NAUS FCT Honours Infrastructure Development Expert for Empowering Nigerian Students

The National Association of University Students (NAUS), FCT chapter has conferred its prestigious Beacon of Knowledge Award on Tosin Ajakaiye, a UK-based researcher and expert on infrastructure development.

The recognition comes in light of her numerous published articles and impactful research that have empowered Nigerian students, inspired academic excellence, and contributed meaningfully to the growth of the academic community.

The award ceremony, held online, brought together student leaders, academics, and stakeholders in education, to not only celebrate Ajakaiye’s role in empowering Nigerian students, but also underscoring NAUS’s commitment to celebrating individuals whose work advances knowledge and national development.

Speaking at the event, Comr. Salamatu Dawood Yaqoob, Chairperson of NAUS FCT, praised the awardee’s dedication to scholarship and her influence on Nigerian students.

Yaqoob further emphasized on the importance of recognizing intellectual contributions that are shaping understanding and driving critical conversations.

“This award is a testament to her unwavering commitment to knowledge and academic excellence. Her research and writings on infrastructure development have not only enlightened students but have also contributed to national conversations on economic growth and progress. This represents the ideals of NAUS—knowledge, empowerment, and advancement.”

“At NAUS, we believe that celebrating scholars who shape ideas and inspire students is vital. This award is meant to encourage more voices in academia to rise and contribute to the nation’s development through research and innovation,” she added.

On her part, Tosin Ajakaiye, the honouree, expressed gratitude for the recognition and shared what the award means to her.

It reminds me that the pursuit of knowledge is not just personal but communal — it is about empowering others to dream, to innovate, and to contribute to our nation’s development. The Beacon of Knowledge Award positions her as a role model for students across the country, reinforcing the importance of research, writing, and intellectual engagement in shaping Nigeria’s future.
