The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 500 improvised explosive device (IED) components and seized large consignments of illicit drugs in multiple operations across several states.
In Niger State, operatives on patrol along the Mokwa–Jebba Road intercepted a commercial bus coming from Ibadan with 500 IED components concealed inside a sack. A follow-up operation led to the arrest of the intended recipient, 21-year-old Osama Abdullahi, at Pelegi in Mashegu Local Government Area.
In Kogi State, NDLEA officers also arrested a Cameroonian national, Mey Ali Muhamat, along the Kabba–Obajana highway with 1.55 kilograms of Colorado, a synthetic strain of cannabis, hidden inside a standing fan carton while travelling from Lagos to Cameroon.
Other operations across the country led to multiple arrests and seizures. In Adamawa State, officers recovered 122,000 tramadol pills and 700 grams of methamphetamine hidden in the false bottom of a truck carrying cartons of local drinks.
Further raids in Kano, Ogun, Delta, and Edo states resulted in additional arrests and the recovery of significant quantities of tramadol, codeine-based syrup, and skunk. In Edo State, NDLEA operatives also destroyed over 1,900 kilograms of cannabis cultivated on farms in Egbisi forest.
Chairman of the NDLEA, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers involved in the operations and urged them to sustain the agency’s balanced strategy of enforcement and public sensitisation in the fight against drug abuse.
