NDLEA seizes N2.8bn worth of drugs, convicts 136 peddlers in Jigawa

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Jigawa State Command, has reported the seizure of 1,944.389kg of illicit drugs valued at N2.8 billion in 2025, resulting in the conviction of 136 drug peddlers.

The agency’s efforts form part of a global push to curb drug trafficking and abuse.

State Commander Hassan Kabaju, briefing journalists on Tuesday at the Command headquarters in Dutse, revealed that the seized substances include 441.973kg of cannabis sativa, 1,373.886kg of psychotropic substances, and 128.520kg of other abused drugs.

Kabaju said that out of 577 individuals arrested during the year—558 males and 19 females—136 peddlers were successfully convicted.

He added that the agency also counselled 552 drug users, with 59 referred to the Command’s Drug Demand Reduction Unit for treatment and rehabilitation.

Under its War Against Drug Abuse campaign, the NDLEA delivered 39,383 drug prevention lectures and advocacy talks across schools, including tertiary institutions, aimed at raising awareness on the dangers of substance abuse.

The Commander, however, noted operational challenges, including a shortage of vehicles and equipment, but reassured that the agency remains committed to reaching all 27 local government areas of the state to combat drug trafficking.

Kabaju commended the dedication of NDLEA personnel in Jigawa and urged continued public collaboration to fight drug abuse.

“The NDLEA will continue to intensify its efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking in Jigawa State,” he stated.

This announcement highlights the agency’s ongoing commitment to reducing drug-related crimes and promoting public safety in the state.
