NNPC Limited has confirmed an explosion on the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline, which occurred at about 5:50 p.m. on December 10, 2025, near Tebijor, Okpele and Ikpopo communities in the Gbaramatu Kingdom of Delta State.
Andy Odeh, NNPC spokesperson said preliminary checks showed a pressure drop on the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) pipeline, indicating a possible loss of containment.
The cause of the explosion, the NNPC noted, remains unknown, but will be determined after a thorough investigation.
“Our priority at this time is the safety of nearby communities and the protection of the environment,” the statement read.
Odeh added that emergency response procedures had been activated, with the company working closely with authorities and community leaders to limit the impact of the incident.
“NNPC Limited remains committed to the highest safety and environmental standards,” the company stated.
