Nollywood actor Joseph Momodu enlists in US Army

Nollywood actor Joseph Momodu has announced his enlistment in the United States Army, describing the milestone as the fulfilment of a lifelong dream and a tribute to his late father, who served in the Nigeria Police Force.

The actor shared the news in an Instagram post on Friday, revealing that he had successfully completed Basic Combat Training after 10 weeks of intensive military training.

Reflecting on the experience, Momodu said the programme tested him physically and mentally, requiring resilience, discipline and determination.

“From inception, I have always believed in achievements earned through merit, which is why I constantly push myself beyond limits,” he wrote.

He described the training as a demanding journey marked by exhaustion, self-doubt and long periods away from family and friends.

“There were moments of doubt and times I questioned myself, but I never lost sight of the finish line. We trained tirelessly, were broken down and rebuilt. I went to sleep a civilian and woke up a soldier,” he said.

Momodu revealed that he deliberately chose April 12, 2026, to honour the memory of his late father, who died 20 years ago, by continuing the family’s tradition of public service.

“Twenty years after his passing, I picked up the baton where he left off in the Nigerian Police Force and carried it forward by getting enlisted into the United States Army,” he stated.

The actor disclosed that he now serves as Specialist (SPC) J.A. Momodu with the 1st Platoon, Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

He dedicated the achievement to God, his late father and his family, expressing gratitude for the strength to pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) examination on his first attempt and complete military training successfully.

Momodu also thanked his social media manager and officials at the US Army Recruiting Station in Burbank, California, for their support throughout the enlistment process.

“This chapter is written. The next one begins now,” he added.
