Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has met with ex-President Goodluck Jonathan behind closed doors in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Obi disclosed this via a post on X on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate noted that he had a fruitful closed-door meeting with Jonathan, whom he described as “my very dear elder brother”.
“Today in Abuja, I met with my very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader, former President Goodluck Jonathan. We had a fruitful closed-door meeting and discussed the state of our dear nation,” the former two-term governor wrote.
With the 2027 general election less than two years away, there are insinuations that Obi and Jonathan are considering fresh bids for the presidency.

Obi, who finished third in the 2023 presidential election, is said to be under pressure from supporters and politicians to run again.
The former governor, in August 2025, reiterated his one-term promise, saying he will serve only a single four-year term if elected president in 2027.
Similarly, there are reports that Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president between 2010 and 2015, has been approached by several political blocs to contest.
Jonathan has so far kept silent on the matter.
For now, Nigerians are watching closely as the 2027 presidential race begins to gather momentum, with more aspirants expected to formally declare their intentions in the coming months.
