Ondo Assembly deputy speaker, majority leader resign

The Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Abayomi Akinruntan, and the Majority Leader, Ogunmolasuyi, have resigned from their positions.

The lawmakers, who are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), announced their resignations during plenary in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

Akinruntan cited political power-sharing arrangements in Ondo State as the reason for his resignation.

Akinruntan represents Ilaje Constituency 1, while Ogunmolasuyi represents Owo Constituency 1.

The lawmaker representing Okitipupa Constituency 2, Ololade Gbegudu, has been selected as the new Deputy Speaker, while Olatunji Oshati from Ose State Constituency was named the Majority Leader.
