One missing as boat carrying three Cameroonians capsizes in Taraba

The Taraba State Police Command has confirmed a boat mishap involving three Cameroonian nationals in Takum Local Government Area of the state.

According to police sources, the incident occurred on June 16 when the boat conveying the foreign nationals capsized while crossing a river in the area.

The matter was reported to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Takum Division on June 17 by a good Samaritan, prompting the police to visit the scene for an assessment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that all three Cameroonian nationals were on board the boat when it overturned.

Two of the occupants survived after reportedly clinging to sticks in the river until they were rescued by local residents, while one person remains missing.

Police sources said representatives of the Cameroonian community have been mobilised to help establish the identities of those involved in the incident.

Residents living along the riverbank are also assisting in the search for the missing victim, whose body has yet to be recovered.

The police said monitoring of the situation is ongoing as efforts continue to locate the missing person.
