Sanusi orders closure of Kano hotel over complaints

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has ordered the immediate closure of Stephrica Guest Palace Hotel in Kureken Sani, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State, following complaints from residents over alleged activities at the facility.

The directive was issued through the Kano Emirate Council under the leadership of the Galadiman Kano, Aliyu Ibrahim Matawalle, after reviewing petitions submitted by members of the community.

According to the Emirate Council, the decision was taken after careful consideration of concerns raised by residents, with the aim of addressing grievances and maintaining peace and order in the area.

A source within the council also said the action followed an investigation into reports lodged by residents of Kureken Sani.

The Emir reportedly further directed that the hotel owner should convert the property into either a school or a hospital, in order to provide greater benefits to the community.

The council said such a conversion would enhance access to education and healthcare services for residents of the area.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman of the Kureken Sani Community Development Association, Malam Muhammad Sabi’u Yahaya, commended the Emirate Council for what he described as a prompt intervention.

He said residents had earlier petitioned the Emirate over alleged suspicious movements involving minors around the hotel premises.

“We are grateful to the Emirate Council for listening to our complaints and taking appropriate action after due investigation,” he said.

The closure has generated reactions within the community, with residents awaiting further clarification on the directive and the future of the property.
