Osinbajo recounts moment he quit alcohol

Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has shared how a chance encounter with a colleague led him to stop drinking alcohol.

In a video circulating on social media, Osinbajo narrated the experience, describing it as a turning point in his personal life.

He said that although he held a pastoral role, he occasionally drank red wine and beer.

“I like my red wine once in a while, and then I like my beer,” he said.

The former vice president explained that the decisive moment occurred while he was working within the justice sector of a United Nations mission in Mogadishu.

According to him, after preaching at a fellowship on a Sunday, he planned to buy some beer before returning to his room. However, on entering a restaurant within the UN compound, he met several colleagues from different countries who were drinking.

He recalled that upon seeing him, they quickly hid their drinks. Curious, he approached a Danish colleague and asked why he concealed his whiskey.

The colleague reportedly replied, “You are the priest, and we cannot be drinking around the priest.”

Osinbajo said the remark struck him deeply and felt like a message that made him reflect on his actions.

He explained that the incident helped him understand the biblical teaching that while certain actions may be permissible, they may not always be appropriate.

Since then, he said, he has completely abstained from alcohol.

The video has since generated mixed reactions online, with many describing the story as relatable and humorous, while others used it to reflect on his public image and time in office.
