Police nab six ‘one-chance’ robbers in Lagos

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos State have arrested six suspected members of a ‘one-chance’ robbery gang accused of targeting commuters in the Okota area.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi.

According to her, the suspects were apprehended during a stop-and-search operation along Ago Palace Way in Okota. A tricycle carrying about six occupants was intercepted while the suspects were allegedly attempting to rob passengers.

She explained that the suspects fled the vehicle on sighting the police, abandoning the tricycle at the scene.

Items recovered include a cutlass believed to have been used in their operations and a mobile phone. Further investigation led to the arrest of all six suspects, aged between 20 and 28.

Adebisi added that the suspects were also found with a dummy pistol allegedly used to carry out their criminal activities.

She said the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Fatai Tijani, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing aimed at curbing crime and safeguarding residents.

The police also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
