Police to investigate officers named in Dadiyata petition

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered an investigation into allegations linking two senior police officers to the disappearance and alleged killing of missing activist and blogger, Abubakar Idris.

The directive was conveyed in an official letter issued from the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja, and dated May 8, 2026.

According to the letter, the IGP directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Police Monitoring Unit to handle a petition submitted against CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba.

The acknowledgment letter, referenced CZ:7050/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.201/18, was addressed to Kano-based law firm A.A. Hikima & Co. and signed by the Principal Staff Officer to the IGP, CP Lateef Adio Ahmed.

“I write to inform you that the Inspector-General of Police has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Police Monitoring Unit, to attend to your request,” the letter stated.

The petition was filed by lawyer Abba A. Hikima following claims allegedly made by Muhammad Musa Kamarawa, a former aide to former Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle.

According to the petition, Kamarawa allegedly claimed that the two officers threatened him and referenced the alleged killing of Dadiyata and another individual identified as Saminu S/Fada Gusau.

Hikima argued that the allegations required urgent and transparent investigation due to the unresolved circumstances surrounding Dadiyata’s disappearance.

Dadiyata, a lecturer and social media commentator known for his political criticism, was reportedly abducted by unidentified persons from his residence in Kaduna State in August 2019. His whereabouts have remained unknown since then.

The case has continued to attract public attention, with civil society groups and human rights organisations repeatedly demanding accountability and a thorough investigation.

The latest directive from the police authorities is regarded as a significant step toward formally examining allegations connected to the long-standing case.

However, the Nigeria Police Force has not disclosed when the investigation will begin or whether the officers named in the petition will be invited for questioning.
