Reps member floors Niger deputy gov to clinch APC guber ticket

A member of the House of Representatives, representing Chanchaga Federal Constituency, Niger State, Umar Bago, has emerged the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries held on Friday.

Bago polled 540 votes to defeat the other nine aspirants including the Niger State Deputy Governor, Ahmed Ketso, who got 17 votes.

Announcing the result, Alhaji Nasiru Ibrahim, the Chairman of the Niger Governorship Primaries Committee, said the total number of votes cast was 1,049 while 11 votes were invalid.

He announced the House of Reps member winner of the primaries with 540 votes.

The runner-up, Mohammed Malagi, garnered 386 votes followed by Sani Ndanusa who scored 84 votes.

The state deputy governor came fourth with 17 votes, while Mohammed Rufai-Mohammed scored 04 votes and Idris Usman polled 03 votes.

The Returning Officer further declared that Mohammed Nda, Aliyu Idris and Mohammed Kputagi scored 01 vote each, adding that other aspirants did not get any vote.

In his acceptance speech, Bago described his victory “as a new beginning not just for him but for the people of the state”.

“I am calling on people to behave in orderly manner and be law-abiding, we can’t in spirit of jubilation destroy lives and property,” he said.
