Abaribe joins APGA

Barely a few hours after dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Enyinnaya Abaribe, announced he has joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

He made this known while speaking to newsmen in Umuahia, the Abia State capital on Friday.

The federal lawmaker stated that he would seek re-election into the Senate in 2023 on the platform of APGA, adding that he would participate in the party’s senatorial primaries slated for Saturday.

With the latest development, Abaribe will be contesting the senatorial seat with the incumbent governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, who is the PDP flag bearer for the position.

The Star had earlier on Friday reported that Abaribe, who was a PDP governorship aspirant before announcing his withdrawal from the gubernatorial primaries on Tuesday, announced he has dumped the main opposition party.

The senator also announced his resignation from his position as the Senate Minority Leader.

He made his decision known via separate letters to the ward chairman of PDP in the Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State and the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan.

Abaribe, in a letter addressed to the party’s ward chairman and titled, ‘Resignation of my membership from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’, cited illegality, impunity, and hesitations in decision-making as reasons for dumping the party.

The letter read: “I write to inform you of my decision to resign as a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“This development is consequent upon the shameful display of illegality, impunity and undemocratic decision of the party and after due consultations with my constituents.”
