Sanwo-Olu declares 2026 a “glorious year” for Lagos

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed optimism that 2026 will be a “better and more glorious” year for Lagos and Nigerians.

The Governor made the remarks during New Year’s Day services at both the State House Chapel, Marina, and a local mosque, emphasizing faith, dedication, and national unity.

Speaking at the Christian service, Governor Sanwo-Olu prayed for God’s guidance and affirmed that “with God, all will be well.”

He also prayed for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging Nigerians to support the President’s initiatives aimed at addressing the country’s social and economic challenges.

“Lagos will continue to make progress. It shall be well with all citizens; 2026 will be a glorious year,” he said.

Reflecting on his tenure, the Governor added, “There will be political movements.

“I will continue to count my days; I have only one January first left in office. No position is permanent.

Let’s continue to pray. We will never give up, no matter the challenges. Nigeria will be greater.”

At the mosque, Governor Sanwo-Olu encouraged public servants to remain committed and diligent, while also offering prayers for the President, his family, and all Nigerians.

The New Year services were attended by senior government officials, junior staff of the State House, and members of the public. Dr Bukola Oluwagbemiga, Director of Postgraduate Studies at Life Theological Seminary, Ikorodu, preached at the Christian service, calling on state officials to provide a platform for God’s work and stressing reliance on faith using passages from Psalm 121 and John 10:27-30.

During the Muslim prayers, Dr Abdullahi Jebe, Special Adviser on Religious Affairs (Muslim), urged citizens to reject hypocrisy and work together with one mind.

The services, coordinated by Dr Jebe and The Very Rev. Bukola Adebiyi, Special Adviser on Religion (Christian), also included prayers for Deputy Governor Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat and his family, the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary, civil servants, the THEMES Plus Agenda, and for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
