A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Kaduna, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, sentenced a teenager, David Jonah, to prison for stealing a goat.
The police charged Jonah with two counts of trespass and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, told the court that one Samson John reported the matter at the police station on November 29.
Leo said the teenager went into the complainant’s compound while he was at the farm and stole his he-goat worth N65,000.
He said Jonah was caught by a neighbour who saw him coming out of the compound with the goat.

Leo said the offence contravened the provisions of Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentenced Jonah after he pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.
Emmanuel however gave the teenager an option of N10,000 fine and warned him to desist from crime.
Emmanuel further advised the convict to focus on his studies or learn a trade, saying the court would not be lenient with him next time.
