Tinubu sacks Edun, Dangiwa as ministers, elevates Oyedele to Finance Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle affecting the Federal Executive Council (FEC), leading to the exit of two ministers and the appointment of their replacements.

The development was announced in a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and signed by George Akume.

According to the statement, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has been directed to step down and hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been elevated from Minister of State to take over the role.

Similarly, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, is to leave office, with Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma named as ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the ministry. Dangiwa has been instructed to hand over to the Minister of State pending Darma’s confirmation.

The statement directed that all handover processes be completed on or before the close of business on April 23, 2026.

Explaining the rationale behind the reshuffle, Akume said the changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion in governance, enhancing synergy among cabinet members, and improving the delivery of economic policies under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in effecting the changes.

Tinubu also expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours, while assuring that efforts to reinvigorate the cabinet would continue.
