The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has expressed interest in strengthening cooperation with Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in areas such as security, economic growth, and green city development.
This was disclosed by the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Nigeria, Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Balawi, during a courtesy visit to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja on Tuesday.
Al-Balawi commended both Wike and the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their efforts in transforming Abuja into what he described as a “beautiful green city.” He expressed optimism about deepening collaboration with the FCT Administration, particularly in sharing knowledge and expertise on sustainable urban development.
The ambassador also highlighted the importance of fostering stronger ties between the FCT and Riyadh, as well as other major Saudi cities, to promote mutual growth and development.
In response, Wike acknowledged the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, noting that the FCT stands to benefit from enhanced cooperation. He expressed willingness to engage with Riyadh and other Saudi cities to identify areas of shared interest and build strategic partnerships.
Wike described Saudi Arabia as a key player in the Gulf region with a rich history of bilateral relations with Nigeria, adding that the FCT Administration is keen to leverage this relationship for development.
The minister also attributed ongoing infrastructural improvements in Abuja to the political will of President Tinubu, stating that while progress has been made, efforts are ongoing to position the capital as a world-class city.
