Troops of the Nigerian Army have carried out a late-night cordon-and-search operation in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, resulting in the arrest of a suspect and the killing of an alleged terrorist informant.
The operation, conducted in the early hours of April 16, 2026, involved personnel from the 202 Battalion and the 21 Special Armoured Brigade.
It targeted key locations including a Customs area, an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, and the Gwange community.
According to security sources, one civilian was apprehended during the exercise after he was found in possession of items believed to belong to a soldier, including uniforms and personal effects, alongside a locally made firearm and other materials.
During the same operation, troops reportedly spotted a suspected informant attempting to escape from the rear area of a correctional facility.
Efforts to capture the individual were unsuccessful, and he was subsequently shot.
The arrested suspect remains in military custody as investigations continue to determine his possible links to criminal or insurgent activities.
Security operations are ongoing in the area as troops intensify efforts to disrupt insurgent networks and prevent infiltration into surrounding communities.
