Troops recover bicycles, supplies as terrorists flee Borno operation

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, working alongside local hunters, have recovered bicycles and other logistics items after suspected Boko Haram terrorists fled during a clearance operation in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

Security sources said the operation took place at about 5 p.m. on July 24 when troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion, supported by local hunters, advanced towards Rumirgo as part of ongoing counter-insurgency operations.

The troops reportedly encountered the insurgents at Surajo Village. However, the terrorists abandoned their position and retreated on sighting the advancing forces without engaging in a firefight.

During the operation, troops recovered three bicycles and two coolers allegedly left behind by the fleeing insurgents.

No casualties were recorded among the troops, while clearance operations continued in the area to exploit the terrorists’ withdrawal and prevent any attempt to regroup.

Military sources said the operation is part of the sustained offensive by Operation HADIN KAI to dismantle terrorist hideouts and restrict insurgents’ movement across the southern axis of Borno State.

They added that troops remain on high alert as operations continue, describing the security situation across the North-East theatre as generally calm but unpredictable.
