Troops seize weapons, destroy drug hideouts in Cross River

Troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered arms and dismantled suspected drug peddling hideouts during a cordon-and-search operation in Cross River State.

Security sources said the operation was carried out at about 6:00 a.m. on Friday by troops of the 13 Brigade in Isabang community, Obubra Local Government Area.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops conducted a thorough sweep of the area, leading to the recovery of five Dane guns and eight live cartridges. A Garmin GPS device was also found during the exercise.

The troops further uncovered and destroyed three locations believed to be used as hideouts for drug peddling.

According to the sources, the operation is part of ongoing efforts to flush out criminal elements, curb arms proliferation, and dismantle networks involved in illicit drug activities.

They added that similar operations would be sustained to enhance security and ensure the safety of communities in the area.
