Uba Sani gives freed inmates N100,000 each

The Kaduna State Government has fulfilled Governor Uba Sani’s promise to provide financial support to inmates granted clemency on Democracy Day, with each of the former prisoners receiving N100,000 to aid their reintegration into society.

The beneficiaries are among the 97 inmates released by the governor on June 12 through the exercise of his constitutional prerogative of mercy.

Speaking during the presentation of the cash support at the Kaduna Medium Security Custodial Centre on Friday, the officer in charge of the facility, Assistant Controller Dalhat Ibrahim, commended the governor for the initiative.

He said the financial assistance would strengthen efforts aimed at reforming, rehabilitating and reintegrating the former inmates into society.

“By paying the fines of the inmates and giving them financial assistance, this will encourage them to do what they are supposed to do. They are now set to be reintegrated into society,” Ibrahim said.

He advised the beneficiaries to use the funds as start-up capital for small businesses or other productive ventures to enable them to rebuild their lives.

Also speaking, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, Mohammed Suleiman, said the disbursement marked the final phase of the clemency programme announced by Governor Sani on Democracy Day.

He explained that the governor directed senior government officials to deliver the promised financial support of N100,000 to each of the freed inmates.

Suleiman urged the beneficiaries to be law-abiding citizens and avoid any criminal activities that could return them to prison.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Chuks Solomon from Ebonyi State expressed appreciation to the governor for granting them freedom and providing financial support.

“We thank him for giving us the money because some of us will use it as capital to start a business. We pray that God will continue to bless him,” he said.

Another beneficiary, Abubakar Umar, described his release as one of the happiest moments of his life and prayed for God’s blessings upon Governor Sani, Kaduna State and Nigeria.
