Wife mutilates husband in Yobe

An 18-year-old housewife in Potiskum, Yobe State, has allegedly mutilated her husband in a shocking incident. The suspect’s name has been withheld.

The Yobe State Police Command confirmed the incident on Saturday. SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the command’s spokesperson, said the alleged attack occurred at about 1 a.m. on February 6 but was reported to the Potiskum Divisional Police Station at about 3 p.m. the same day.

According to Abdulkarim, the suspect, who remains at large, reportedly used a sharp knife to attack her husband and fled the scene.

“Following the report, police operatives promptly visited the scene and rushed the victim to the State Specialist Hospital, Potiskum, for urgent medical attention. He was later referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare, where he is currently receiving treatment,” Abdulkarim stated.

He added that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the suspect and determine the full circumstances surrounding the crime.

The police spokesperson said certain sensitive details are being withheld to protect the victim from further trauma.

Abdulkarim also quoted the Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, as strongly condemning the act. “Marriage must be founded on mutual respect, understanding, patience, and tolerance.

“It should never be an avenue for violence, abuse, or humiliation,” he said.
