Wike remains loyal to Tinubu till 2031 — Aide

Teehe Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports claiming that some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are urging him to contest the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement issued on Friday, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, described the report as “another lie from idle minds who have nothing to contribute to the development of the country.”

Olayinka stated that Wike remains firmly committed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration, declaring, “As far as Wike is concerned, it is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu till 2031.”

He said the FCT Minister has always been open about his political stance and does not engage in secret dealings.
“Wike does not function in hiding. He does what he says and says what he does. He has made it clear where he stands as long as the 2027 presidential election is concerned — he is with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Olayinka emphasized.

The aide clarified that the only meeting held on August 20, 2025, involving PDP stakeholders from the South, was convened to discuss an upcoming party meeting in Lagos, not to push Wike’s alleged presidential ambition.

Olayinka noted that the details of the meeting were made public in a statement signed by several PDP leaders, including party chairmen from Imo, Abia, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers States, as well as the National Vice Chairman (South-East) and other prominent figures.

He accused critics of attempting to smear Wike’s image through misinformation but maintained that such efforts would fail, as the minister’s loyalty to President Tinubu is unwavering.

Olayinka added that Wike remains focused on delivering the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda by transforming the FCT into a world-class capital city comparable with others globally.
