17-year-old Jonathan Adewale emerged as the youngest chartered accountant in the country, following his completion of his program at the Institute of the Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
Adewale was pronounced the youngest chartered accountant at the 69th induction ceremony for new members, numbering 1,277 in Lagos on Wednesday.
The record-breaker, who hails from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, will, however, wait for another four years before he can be inducted as a member of ICAN.
An Act of the ICAN states that members of the Institute must attain the age of 21 to be inducted as an associate.

Speaking on the feat, Adewale said he was motivated by his dad who he said failed ICAN examination repeatedly before he (the father) finally became a chartered accountant.
Meanwhile, the governing board of ICAN has approved a full scholarship for Adewale’s tertiary education when he gets admission into the university of his choice.
Adewale had passed the final stage of ICAN examination earlier in the year.
