19 kidnap victims freed in Katsina after peace negotiations

Nineteen kidnapped victims have regained their freedom in Katsina State following the ongoing peace accord under the Operation Safe Corridor Initiative.

The victims, consisting of men and women from Sabuwa and Funtua Local Government Areas, were released on Thursday morning at Innono Jigo Village in Sabuwa LGA as part of reconciliation efforts with repentant bandits.

Those freed include 27-year-old Safaratu Basiru, 22-year-old Jamila Auwalu, and 17 others who had been in captivity for several weeks.

Local officials and community leaders received the victims and took them to Haske Private Health Centre in Sabuwa for medical examination before reuniting them with their families.

Authorities said the release was part of sustained efforts to strengthen peace and security across Katsina State, adding that monitoring of the situation would continue to ensure lasting stability in the affected communities.
