Oyebanji to residents: Take ownership of community infrastructure maintenance

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has urged residents to take ownership of road infrastructure in their communities, stressing that proper maintenance and protection are crucial to ensuring the longevity of government projects.

The governor made the call in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday during the inauguration of the newly completed Bovas–Spotless Road and Palace–Oke-Age–Idolofin Road, part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration.

Represented by his wife, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure across the state to improve the people’s living conditions and stimulate economic growth.

Oyebanji said the durability of road projects depended on citizens’ collective responsibility, urging residents to avoid actions that could damage them, such as dumping refuse in drainages or digging along road shoulders.

“I appeal to all road users and residents to maintain these roads. They are investments in our collective future, and everyone has a role to play in preserving them,” he stated.

He emphasized that roads were not just pathways for vehicles but essential lifelines that connect communities, promote trade, enhance security, and improve overall quality of life.

According to him, the newly inaugurated township roads will ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and open up new economic opportunities for residents and businesses in the area.

Governor Oyebanji reiterated his administration’s resolve to continue delivering people-oriented projects, assuring citizens that his government would not relent in bringing the dividends of democracy to every part of Ekiti State.

Commissioner for Works, Mr. Sola Adebayo, described the projects as a major milestone in the state’s infrastructural renewal drive, adding that the rehabilitated roads had long been in deplorable condition before government intervention.

He said the Oyebanji administration envisioned a road network that would ease traffic, enhance accessibility, and elevate the standard of living for residents.

Adebayo commended the governor for his commitment to urban renewal and urged residents to support government efforts by ensuring proper use and maintenance of public infrastructure.

The event was attended by Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, Secretary to the State Government Prof. Habitat Adubiaro, Head of Service Folakemi Olomojobi, Chief of Staff Niyi Adebayo, members of the House of Assembly, and top government officials.
