Preparations were in full swing at the Rainbow Event Centre in Garki, Area 8, Abuja, on Monday night as workers adorned the hall in the colours of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the party’s national convention scheduled for Tuesday.
The convention, themed “So the Nation May Work,” is expected to draw over 300 delegates from across the country.
Our correspondent, who visited the venue at about 8:10pm on Monday, observed that the Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee, former Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke, was personally overseeing the setup.
Other senior party figures sighted at the venue included former Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha, former Nigerian Bar Association President Olumide Akpata, former PDP National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan, and former Director-General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, C.I.D. Maduabum.
While decorators worked through the night to ensure the hall was ready before daybreak, party supporters were already seated in the venue, and traders selling water, soft drinks and other items had positioned themselves at the entrance, apparently prepared to spend the night on site.
The ADC had initially sought to use Eagle Square and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome for the convention before settling on the Rainbow Event Centre following unsuccessful attempts to secure approval for both facilities.
Key agenda items for the convention include the affirmation of the National Working Committee led by former Senate President David Mark and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, as well as the adoption of a reviewed party constitution and manifesto.
