Atiku visits Amaechi after ex-VP grabs ADC presidential ticket

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday paid a visit to former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, at his Abuja residence following the conclusion of the presidential primaries of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Atiku was accompanied by key political figures, including former Sokoto State governor Aminu Tambuwal, former ADC National Chairman Ralph Nwosu, and other party stakeholders.

The meeting comes amid reactions trailing the ADC primary election, where both Atiku and Amaechi emerged as leading contenders for the party’s presidential ticket.

According to reports, Atiku clinched the ticket with 1,846,370 votes in the direct primary, defeating Amaechi, who secured 504,117 votes, while Mohammed Hayatu-Deen polled 177,120 votes.

The visit is seen as part of ongoing consultations to foster unity within the party following the closely contested primary, as preparations begin ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Details of the closed-door meeting were not disclosed as of the time of filing this report.
