The first set of Nigerians stranded in war-torn Sudan, on Wednesday, May 3, returned to Nigeria.
Some of the stranded Nigerians, who were mostly students and evacuated from Egypt by Air Peace, arrived at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja at about 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) plane conveying another set of Nigerians also touched down at the Abuja airport at about 12 midnight.
The evacuees were screened by officials of the Ministry of Health upon arrival in the country.

The Federal Government had announced that the NAF C-130H aircraft and Air Peace plane have been cleared to fly Egyptian airspace for the evacuation of Nigerians stranded in crisis-hit Sudan.
This came after the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) said over 7,000 nationals, including Nigerians, were not allowed to cross the border into Egypt since their arrival on Thursday evening from Sudan.
However, the Federal Government, in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Janet Olisa, and that of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Sani Gwarzo, last Friday, disclosed that the NAF C-130H left Abuja on April 28, 2023, to commence the airlift of the stranded students.
