Manchester City players, Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne, and Arsenal pair Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard, have been nominated for the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) men’s player of the year award.

Also on the six-man shortlist released by the PFA on Thursday are City defender, John Stones, and former Tottenham striker, Harry Kane, who is now with Bayern Munich.

Haaland, 23, made a big impact in his first season in English football.

He scored 52 goals in all competitions as Pep Guardiola’s side won the Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League.

Stones, 29, was also a revelation as Guardiola pushed him up from defence into midfield last season.

England captain Kane scored 30 top-flight goals last season for Tottenham, second only to Haaland’s Premier League tally of 36 – a new record.

Norway international Odegaard led by example as Arsenal captain and hit 15 goals and added seven assists, while England winger Saka enjoyed his finest season to date, scoring 14 goals for the Gunners and contributing 11 assists.

Saka is also nominated for the Young Player of the Year alongside Haaland.

Moises Caicedo, who recently joined Chelsea from Brighton, is nominated too, alongside Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey, and Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli.

The PFA awards are voted for by members from England’s 92 Premier League and Football League clubs.
