The operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested one of the inmates who escaped during the July 5 jailbreak at the Kuje Medium Security Correctional Centre in Abuja.

The fleeing inmate, identified as Yakubu Abdulmumuni, was arrested by police operatives at the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, made the disclosure via a statement issued on Wednesday.

Oyeyemi stated that the suspect was arrested on Monday.

He added that the 28-year-old fleeing inmate was arrested following information received by policemen at divisional headquarters, Sango-Ota, that the convict was sighted around the area.

“Upon the information, the Divisional Police Officer, Sango-Ota Division, SP Saleh Dahiru, quickly mobilised his men and moved to the area where the convict was apprehended.

“The convict confessed to the police that he escaped from Kuje correctional centre on July 5, when the centre was attacked by bandits.

“Abdulmumuni stated further that he was convicted by Kogi State High Court for offence of conspiracy and culpable homicide and sent to Kuje Correctional Centre” the police spokesperson disclosed.

Oyeyemi noted that the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department to transfer the convict to a correctional centre with immediate effect.
