Nigeria and China have agreed to deepen their partnership on security, stability, and national sovereignty following a high-level meeting between Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and the Chinese Ambassador, Mr. Yu Dunhai.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, said both officials reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and discussed ways to strengthen strategic cooperation.
The talks also covered major regional and global developments.
Ambassador Dunhai praised Nigeria’s leadership in West Africa and echoed Nigeria’s concerns over the misrepresentation of regional crises.
He reaffirmed China’s firm support for Nigeria’s security and sovereignty.
The meeting explored expanded areas of collaboration, including industrialisation, rare earth and critical mineral development, technology transfer, migration management, and capacity-building.
Both sides also assessed China’s proposed “process solutions,” potential investments, and new opportunities in energy, manufacturing, and economic transformation.
Tuggar and Dunhai agreed that updating existing bilateral agreements is crucial to unlocking further cooperation.
They reaffirmed their commitment to advancing Nigeria–China relations for shared growth and strategic benefit.
