The Ogun State Government has proposed a ₦1.668 trillion budget for 2026, representing a 63 percent increase from the 2025 fiscal year.
Governor Dapo Abiodun presented the Appropriation Bill, tagged “Budget of Sustainable Legacy,” to the State House of Assembly on Thursday.
The budget allocates ₦624.76 billion to recurrent expenditure and ₦1.044 trillion to capital projects.
Personnel costs are projected at ₦167.92 billion, overheads at ₦291.06 billion and debt charges at ₦99.98 billion.
Abiodun said the state expects ₦509.88 billion in internally generated revenue and ₦554.81 billion from federal allocations, while ₦518.90 billion in loans and grants will support capital projects.
Infrastructure gets the largest share with ₦526.15 billion, followed by education with ₦275.40 billion and health with ₦210.59 billion.
Other key allocations include ₦199.96 billion for housing and community development and ₦40.54 billion for agriculture and industry.
The Governor said the 2026 budget will focus on completing major projects aligned with the ISEYA development pillars and the national development agenda.
He highlighted Ogun’s rising GDP—now estimated at ₦17 trillion—and the surge in IGR from ₦52 billion in 2020 to ₦192 billion in 2024, with a ₦250 billion target for 2025.
Abiodun noted significant infrastructure gains, including the Gateway International Airport, ongoing construction of Kajola and Ijebu-Ode Dry Ports, and more than 1,500km of roads built or rehabilitated in six years.
Speaker Oludaisi Elemide commended the administration’s performance and said the Assembly had passed 11 bills this year, with oversight efforts ensuring accountability across MDAs.
He called for stronger enforcement of land laws and more support for the legislature.
