Robbery suspect dies during escape attempt in Minna

An armed robbery suspect, Aliyu Salihu of Wushishi Quarters, Minna, has died after attempting to flee police custody, the Niger State Police Command confirmed.

The incident occurred at about 9:20 a.m. on November 23 at the Maitumbi Division.

Sources said Salihu feigned a need to use the restroom, then attacked a desk officer and a station guard before attempting to jump over the station fence.

A pursuing guard fired a shot aimed at his legs, inflicting serious injuries. Salihu was rushed to the Police Clinic, Minna, where he was pronounced dead.

His body has been transferred to the General Hospital, Minna, for further examination.

The Niger Police Command said it will conduct an internal review in accordance with established protocols.
