Security guard arraigned over theft of N2m generator in Lagos

A 26-year-old security guard, Muhammed Usman, was on Friday arraigned before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over the alleged theft of two generators valued at N2 million.

Usman, whose address was not disclosed, is facing a three-count charge of negligence, stealing and felony. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences at about 2:30 p.m. on December 20 at Sauril Global Services, Agogo Igbala area of Badagry.

According to Ekpo, Usman allegedly negligently allowed thieves to gain access to the company’s premises, leading to the theft of two Elepac generators valued at N2 million. The prosecution further alleged that the defendant conspired with others to steal the generators belonging to the company.

He said the offences contravened Sections 242, 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum. The court ruled that one of the sureties must be a company director.

The case was adjourned until February 19 for mention.
