The Senate will screen Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN) on Thursday, October 16, 2025, following his nomination as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This was disclosed this via a notice issued by the director of information at the office of the secretary, research and information, Bullah Audu Bi-Allah, on Wednesday.
Bi-Allah said senators will conduct the screening at the Senate chamber in Abuja on Thursday.
The National Council of State had, last week, approved the nomination of Amupitan from the North-Central as the new INEC chairman.

President Bola Tinubu presented Amupitan as the nominee to fill the vacant position, following Prof. Mahmood Yakubu’s exit.
Yakubu served from 2015 till October 2025.
Tinubu informed the council that Amupitan is the first person from Kogi, North-Central state, nominated to occupy the position and is apolitical.
Council members unanimously supported the nomination, with Governors Usman Ododo describing Amupitan as a man of integrity.
