Students beat classmates to death over homosexuality in Kano

Tragedy struck at Government Secondary School, Bichi, in Kano State, as two students were brutally killed and two others seriously injured following an alleged attack by fellow students over accusations of homosexuality.

The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Monday, when a group of students reportedly confronted four of their classmates over unconfirmed claims of same-sex relationships.

The confrontation quickly escalated into a violent mob attack, resulting in the immediate deaths of two students.

A witness revealed, “We initially thought it was just a regular fight among students, but it turned out to be far more serious.

The victims were accused of being gay, and their attackers beat them severely.

Two died instantly, and the others were rushed to the hospital.”

Medical personnel at Bichi General Hospital confirmed that two surviving students are receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the assault.

In response to the incident, the Kano State Police Command announced the arrest of 11 suspects connected to the attack.

Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said investigations are ongoing and assured that anyone found guilty will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Kano State Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Makoda, through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Bashir Baffa, strongly condemned the incident, describing it as tragic and unacceptable.

“This is a deeply unfortunate event. The government is committed to conducting a thorough, fair, and transparent investigation to ensure that justice is served,” Makoda stated.

He also extended his condolences to the families of the victims, praying for peace and comfort during their time of grief.

The Director of the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board, Alhaji Abbas Abdullahi, expressed concern over the violence, calling it “deeply disturbing” and warning students against taking the law into their own hands.

“We must discourage mob action in any form. Students should always channel complaints through the appropriate school authorities,” he said.

Authorities have pledged to enhance school security and ensure such a tragic incident never happens again.
