Wikki Tourists fined ₦3.75m for violence at NNL Super 8 final

Wikki Tourists FC has been hit with a ₦3.75 million fine by the Nigeria National League (NNL) following a string of violent and disorderly incidents during their Super 8 promotion playoff clash against Warri Wolves FC on July 12, 2025, at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.

In a disciplinary notice signed by NNL Chief Operating Officer Danlami Alanana, and sent to both Wikki Tourists FC and the Bauchi State Football Association, the club was accused of gross misconduct during Match No.13 of the competition.

The league condemned the behavior of the club’s supporters and officials as “unruly” and “unacceptable.”

According to the report, Wikki Tourists fans disrupted the game by throwing objects at Assistant Referee II and onto the pitch, creating a threatening atmosphere for players, officials, and spectators.

The situation escalated at full-time, with fans reportedly storming the pitch in an attempt to confront match officials and NNL staff, causing panic among attendees, including VIP guests.

Citing violations of Articles 16.1.1 and 27.1 of its regulations, the NNL levied the following fines on the Bauchi-based club: ₦1,000,000 for overall misconduct by officials and fans, ₦2,000,000 for harassment, object-throwing, and pitch invasion, and ₦750,000 for destruction of stadium property, including advertising materials and pitch barriers

Wikki Tourists FC has been given 24 hours to either accept the penalties or file an appeal.

“The disgraceful actions of your supporters have severely dented the image of a match meant to reflect the spirit and quality of Nigerian football,” Alanana stated in the league’s official correspondence.

The incident has drawn wide criticism, raising fresh concerns about security and fan behavior at domestic football matches in Nigeria.
